Be Daring Be Bold

Bright, bold colors can be a quick way to add a little flavor to your look this season. A bright pink lip or peacock eye shadow can take you from sweet to sensational. I'm loving the new bright shades and when done correctly all women can pull it off. The real key to this look is choosing one area to play with. If it's your lips you want to showcase, keep the rest of your makeup nuetral as to not overpower the face. When choosing the right lipcolor look for sheer or creamy formulas so they slick on nicely and don't look too heavy. My favorite shades are fushia, coral, hot pink and orange. You want to make sure your lips are not dry or chapped because bright colors can collect in these areas and look messy. To keep lips soft and supple apply a great nightime balm like Victoria's Secret's "Balmy Nights". Only line the lips with a clear lipliner if you must, because the look should look soft and not drawn on. Sweep on the color and blot with the fingertips. Don't add gloss on top because it will be too much, only make the bold color the statement. If you are choosing the eyes to play with, try a shimmery bright shade of peacock green, saphire blue or turquiose. Sweep the color along the lashline with an angle brush for a more subtle look or across the lid for more drama. Avoid putting any bright shadow in the crease area and above because it will be way too much shadow and we are interested in enhancing not distracting. Make sure to use a soft sable eye shadow brush if you're sweeping the lid. Using a cheap brush with hard bristles, will only make the shadow go on irregular and not at all flattering. Again pair this look with a more nuetral lip and cheek to create balance. If the brights are a liitle scary for the makeup-phobes try a bright nailcolor on the toes instead. With all the great summer sandles and wedges a hot nail shade will make your feet look ultra sexy.

Drug Store Delights

I can't tell you how many times women are shocked when they look into my professional makeup kit and find good old fashioned drugstore products. The truth is, a lot of artists, celebs, beauty editors, and models use things we can pick up at any Duane Read. It may be sitting next to our Cream De La Mer, but we know our classics. Q-tips, for one, is the ultimate beauty tool. You can use them to clean up makeup smudges, soften eyeliner, fill in self-tanner streaks, apply concealer, etc. Throw a travel pack in your purse and there will be no need to carry brushes with you for daytime touchups. Eucerin body lotion is another favorite. This rich body lotion leaves a great shine making your legs look super sleek. I have not found another body lotion that completely relieves dry skin the way this one does. I like to mix a little gold or irridescent shimmer and scented oil into it for night time glamour. You can custom design your own lotion. How fun! Upstage non-latex makeup wedges are the only sponges I use to apply foundation. I find expensive sponges to be too porous and they do not blend very well. These deliver color seamlessly. Cetephyl cleanser for oily skin is my daily face wash staple. I have used it for years and it keeps my skin so clean and blemish free. I actually have dry skin, but I find the oily skin one better at cutting through tough makeup. Of course, Maybelline mascaras! Whether it is the Great Lash or Lash Discovery they do the best mascara hands down. Jolen Cream Bleach for facial hair is great for lightening dark eyebrows. I use it alot on women who have just lightened their haircolor and need to do the same to the brows. Put it on for 10 minutes and it lifts the color very naturally. Vasaline is another classic. You can use it to add a little shine on top of your favorite lipstick or dab a bit under the brow for some dramatic shine. Alot of makeup artist apply it on top of eye shadow to create an eye gloss effect. Drug store products are not only inexpensive and convienant , they have been around all this time for a good reason. They are the best, so don't fix it if it ain't broke!
