Michelle Rodburn from San Diego, California writes:
Every season I see new makeup looks in the magazines but are they for everybody?
I have red a hair and freckles so how can I pull off “the smokey eye” without looking scary?
Carmindy:
Well Michelle, it’s all about the colors you choose. You can try the new
looks but just take into consideration your coloring. If the smoky eye you read about
is with grey eye shadow than you need to use warm brown eye shadow instead to master the
look perfectly for your skin tone. Also use a lighter hand when trying the look. The magazine
will have a more fashion forward version so to translate it into real life you want to apply with
a lighter hand. Every season there are many new looks to play with so go for one that compliments your features.

Please tell me the name of the silver can foundation you spray onto a sponge in every episode of “What Not To Wear”. I have never seen it before.
Carmindy:
Hi Sherie, the foundation is Era Face by Classified Cosmetics available at www.classifiedcosmetics.com. It is an oil-free foundation that I like to apply with a non-latex sponge that I dip into a little moisturizer first. I dab the extra moisturizer off just so the sponge is damp, then spray the foundation onto to it and apply to the whole face. You can flip the sponge
over and use the dry side to stipple the foundation on areas that need extra coverage.
Maria Gonzales from Toronto, Canada writes:
How do I keep my under eye concealer from getting cakey and settling into my fine lines at the end of every day? I come home looking tired and older then I really am.
Carmindy:
Maria, it sounds like you are using the wrong product or too much of the product to get rid of your darkness. I find that by applying a lot less concealer but in a bright or light reflecting formula you will bounce light off the darkness creating a more rested and natural appearance. Try Benefit Eyebright (my personal favorite) after your foundation but before powder and swipe on under the eyes then blend in with your ring finger for an instant eye lift. A thicker concealer is needed for serious dark circles but choose one that reflects light like Stila Illuminating Concealer. Dust on the smallest amount of sheer translucent powder to set. Do not apply powder under your eyes again all day, for this will only make it look cakey and dry.
