Exciting Spring Trends

Finally spring has arrived and with it an array of fun fabulous makeup trends that will pull any of us out of that dreaded makeup rut. My top 5 favorites can be played with by any woman of any age by just tweaking a texture here or an application technique there. This is my runway to real way guide for you to apply these hot looks.

Look 1- Bold Lips. At Diane Von Furstenberg, Proenza Schouler, Valentino and Anna Sui models traipsed down the runway rocking bold bright lip colors which was an exciting change from all the heavily bronzed faces of the past spring seasons. This is a fun trend because it can be worn alone with a “self-tanner” tanned face. Colors like strawberry, orange, fuchsia, strong pink and watermelon are great choices to update your makeup wardrobe. But how to wear them without looking silly? I recommend buying a new bold shade of lipstick and use your finger to apply it by tapping it gently onto your lips. This will avoid that painted on look and skip liner and gloss, which will make it, look too over-the-top. If it’s a subtle look you desire go for a sheer lip-gloss in a bright shade. Swipe it on and you will get just a hint of this fabulous trend.

Look 2- Flushed Cheeks. This is an easy and universal trend that works on everyone because it mimics your natural flush. It reminds me of a spring garden and keeps women looking young and fresh. With your middle and ring finger gently swirl on a cream blush in a floral rose shade to the apples of the cheeks adding layers until your desired effect. If you apply too much simply buff it down with a clean dry makeup sponge. Keep lips a light and sheer so you don’t look overly made up.

Look 3- Metallic. This look is really great for night because it’s like adding jewelry to the eyes. Chanel’s spring fashion show demonstrated a fantasy version but you can wear it in real life by skipping the eye shadow and using only eyeliners. Start by drawing on a silver eyeliner under the lower lash line and smudge softly with a Q-tip. Next sweep gold or bronze eyeliner on the upper lash line and finish off with black mascara on top and bottom.

Look 4- Red Lips. I know it seams that red lips is such a fall/winter trend but to make it work for the spring is to think sheer. I like using stains, super sheer lipsticks, tinted lip balms or lip-glosses so the red is there but not screaming. Pair it with a pink or peach cheek and a softly defined eye. This looks amazing when wearing a crisp cotton white dress no matter what your age is.

Look 5- Candy Colored Eye Shadow. I love this trend because you can choose a shade you have always wanted to try but where afraid to. The problem was you just didn’t know how to wear aqua blue, pale green or violet. Here’s how. First even out your skin with a sheer foundation, spot conceal any redness or dark circles and powder ever so conservatively. Next, lightly blend on a sheer shade of colored eye shadow across the lid from the lash line to the crease. Apply it like watercolor so the skin shows through and it does not look opaque. Do not use eyeliner or other eye shadows but do apply black mascara. Apply a soft sun-kissed bronze to the cheeks and a sheer sun-kissed lip gloss and you are done.

Nancy Hartgay writes:
No matter how hard I try I can’t get cream shadows to stop from creasing. How do I fix this?

Carmindy:
Well, Nancy the easiest way is to use powder eye shadows instead. Although creams are nice and sheer they don’t last long and can really slide off if you tend to have oily skin. If you still want to use them then apply them under the brow and only on the eye lid, stopping just under the crease. Use a powder eye shadow in the crease. This way the crease will be cream free and won’t crease.

What are the best blotting papers to use? I see ones that come with powder on them do these work better?

Carmindy:
I love the blotting papers from Clean And Clear. They really absorb oil and grease well. Skip those blotting papers that contain powder because they will deliver a splotch of dry looking powder where you use the papers and never really blend in well. Also that extra powder will get cakey if you blot all day.

What is the best blush color for Latina women?

Carmindy:
I love bright coral pink blush. It brightens up your olive complexion giving your face a radiant sexy look.
