The New Beauty For Fall

This fall it’s all about a new rich looking glamour. Beautiful saturated shades of wine and burgundy lip colors that sparkle and glow will look sophisticated now as we move into the autumn season. Fuller brows and sweeps of khaki gold shimmering eye shadow will capture the attention of everyone around you and as you know, liquid eyeliner is making a full comeback and paired with softly matted skin, nothing is more elegant. For those of you who shy away from darker lip colors, fear not, for the variety of sheer lipsticks will allow you to play with the new colors without feeling too overdone. The key is in balancing the face. Remember you can always choose just one trend to play with and you will still stay current but feel comfortable.

To create this look, start with a liquid foundation and follow with a loose translucent powder to give your skin a satiny matte look. Blush is not big this fall so lightly apply a neutral shade along your cheekbones for just a hint of natural looking color. Create a fuller looking brow by sketching on a bit of brow pencil using upward hair-like strokes and sweep over them with a clear brow gel. Using an eye shadow brush sweep on a khaki gold eye shadow across the upper lid from the lash line to the crease and lightly smudge the same shadow under the lower lash line using a Q-Tip. Liquid liner is next and should be applied along the upper eyelid only slightly extending at the outer corners. Liquid liner never looks natural when used on the lower lash line. If you have trouble sweeping on a perfect line try using small little dashes starting at the inside corner of the eye and working your way out towards the end. Dip an angle brush into a little bit of the liquid liner and then trace over top of the line for a perfect finish. A great trick I use if I make a mistake is to take a small-tipped concealer brush dipped into a little bit of foundation and clean up around the sides of the line to refine it. It’s the perfect trick to create the precise little wing at the outer corners.

Black mascara on top and bottom will finish off the alluring look of the eyes. On the lips, go for wine, burgundy or a deep rose shade with a bit of shimmer. You can go as opaque or as sheer as you want. For a softer looking lip, apply the lipstick to your pointer finger and then tap your finger onto your lips for a stained natural look. For a more dramatic mouth line the lips with a neutral lip pencil and then apply a more pigmented shade using a lip brush.

Kelly Harrison writes:
My lips are very thin and I always read I should not use dark lip colors. Is there anyway I can try deeper shades?

Carmindy:
Absolutely! The trick is to buy a sheer formula of a darker lip color that contains shimmer so your lips will sparkle and it won’t look too severe. Also if you trace the outside of your lip line with a shimmering nude pencil like Benefit’s Cupid’s Bow Lip Pencil it will enhance your lip shape.

Lisa Lee writes:
I have light olive skin and can’t find a gold eye shadow to wear on my eyes that does not bring out the yellowness in my skin. Do you have any suggestions?

Carmindy:
Try the new Stila Eyeshadow Trio in “Gold Glow”. It is the most beautiful shade of gold with a more taupe undertone so it will work perfectly with your skin tone.

Mercedes Garcia writes:
I don’t like to wear any makeup but black liquid eyeliner. Is there anything I can try to look more current?

Carmindy:
Hey, it looks like you found your signature style so try new shades of liquid eyeliner for some variation. Try khaki green, eggplant or burgundy liquid eyeliner to get into the fall mood.
