Prom Season Glamour

Wow! It's that time of year already, prom time. For all you younger ladies this is it, your time to shine and look the best you ever have. That's a lot of pressure and a lot of girls really tend to overdo it. The key to looking chic and fabulous is to think it through and stay true to yourself. Remember, years from now you will look at your prom picture and want to remember how great you looked, not how ridiculous. The first thing to consider is your current look.

What kind of girl are you? Are you bohemian? Glamorous? Rock-n-roll? Preppy? Now think of playing this up and creating a “look” that mirrors your image. I suggest starting an image board. Begin cutting out photos from magazines and old books of your favorite hair, makeup and dress looks. Even pictures of places, colors, flowers and people can be great inspiration. When your image board is finished you will have an idea of a look and feel you may want to go for. Use your imagination and have fun. How can your makeup play into this imagery? Here are a few ideas: If you're a bohemian babe go for the goddess look. Long flowing hair and maybe a braid at the crown can channel your inner siren. Make skin look utterly ethereal by blending on liquid foundation, concealer, translucent powder, and then apply an iridescent shade of eye shadow on top of the cheekbones. This will give you that whimsical glow. For goddess eyes sweep the same iridescent shade under the eyebrow and then use a pale gold across the eyelid. Blend a light golden brown eye shadow in the crease and under the lower lash line. Skip eyeliner and go for a double dose of black mascara. On cheeks sweep a powder bronzer starting at the temples and working along the sides of the face and then across the cheeks for a sun-kissed look. Gloss up lips with a peachy golden sheer lip-gloss and you're ready to enchant the whole school.

If you're into Hollywood glamour, go old school and create a classic look. Apply foundation, concealer and powder and make sure your eyebrows are in great shape. Now sweep a vanilla colored eye shadow across the entire eyelid from the lash line to under the brow. A taupe shade blended into the crease enhances your eyes' natural shape. Glue on a pair of flirty false lashes and sweep liquid liner in black on the upper lashes only and wing it out at the corners. This will also hide the seam where your lashes and the falsies meet. Swirl on a pale peach blush and ruby up your lips with a bold red shade. You will be ready for the red carpet with this look.

Rocker chicks should smoke up their eyes with dark shadows. Create a perfect canvas with liquid foundation, concealer and powder. Apply a highlight shade under the brow and on the inner corners. Line the upper lashes with black pencil and line the inner rims of the eyes as well. Sweep a smoky grey lid shade across the lid and under the lower lash line and follow with a contour shade in the crease. Lots of black mascara finishes off these hard-core eyes. Keep blush as natural as possible and slick on a champagne colored pale lip-gloss for a balanced look. You will be edgy-chic and alluring all night.

Preppy gals can look polished and sophisticated with romantic hues. Liquid foundation and concealer will help skin look flawless, and now is the perfect time to swirl on cream blush in a rosy shade for a soft flush. A light dusting of powder will lock it in place and keep shine away. Sweep sparkling brown liquid eyeliner on the upper lash line and apply a highlight eye shadow under the brows. Now sweep soft brown eye shadow on the lid and under the lower lash line and finish with one coat of black mascara. Rosy up your lips with a creamy lipstick and your pretty-preppy look is complete.
