Steamy Summer Beauty

Oh ladies it's hot out there and with this summer's makeup trends you're sure to sizzle. The focus this season is on eyes and lips. Bright, bold shades of green, turquoise, coral, orange and pink are all the rage. Don't fear these colors; embrace them with a fun attitude and the know-how to use them correctly.

On eyes choose sheer washes of color and keep them limited to one area. If you want to try bright aqua on the eyes simply line the upper lashes only with this shade and keep the rest of the eye neutral. I like to pair a bold liner with a soft wash of pale gold on the rest of the eye and a peachy pink cheek and lip. You will never look overdone like this.

If you want to try a sweep of bright color like green on the lid, apply it from the lash line to the crease and skip liner. Liner will compete with this summery shade and this look works best when it's applied with a light hand. Stay away from super high shimmer or glittery formulas, which can look a bit freakish. Choose finely milled, soft matte or subtly shimmering shades of green. A healthy dose of black mascara and a shimmering nude blush and gloss will polish off this look beautifully.

Lips are having a fantastic time with juicy Popsicle color lipsticks. My personal favorite is a bold coral or perfect pink. The modern approach is to use moist, matte shades with no shimmer on slightly bronzed skin. The perfect way to achieve this look is to start with your regular foundation then swirl on a little cream bronzer. Next line the upper lash line with a brown liner and dab on a highlight under the brows. Sweep on black mascara and apply a hint of coral blush. Now have fun with poppy shades of orange, coral or pink. If you want to play with the trend without the full commitment of color, opt for tinted lip balms or sheer glosses.

Jackie Olsen writes:
I'm 45 years old and a mother of two. Can I wear bright colored eye shadow or is it too young for me?

Carmindy:
You can totally get away with it if you use a sheer wash of color and keep the rest of your makeup very simple. Skip liner and don't bring the color under your lower lash line. Keep it on the upper lid only.

Chandria Miller writes:
Whenever I put on bright gloss it disappears and I'm not even left with a stain. Is there any way to fix this?

Carmindy:
Sure! Try applying a thin veil of matching colored lipstick first and blot gently with a tissue. Next swipe on the gloss; if it comes off you're left with the color underneath.

Savannah Sellers writes:
I hate wearing foundation in the summer. Can I wear bold lips on bare skin?

Carmindy:
Oh yes I love that look, it is very chic. Make sure your skin is well protected with a nice SPF. Spot conceal any blemishes or dark circles and apply black mascara. Apply the bold lip color and be fabulous!
