Beauty Trippin’

Wow, can you believe that we are in the middle of summer already? Hopefully you're packing your bags for a fun-in-the-sun getaway. Whether a trip to a tropical beach or a sunny cruise on the open seas, what goes in your makeup bag is very important. You want to pack light but ensure you have all the necessities to look gorgeous and stay well protected too. I'll share with you what I carry on the plane on my way to a palm-fringed beach so you can see how easy it can be.

I always start by packing my entire beauty ritual in my 1-quart Ziploc. I figure if I make it to my destination and my luggage doesn't, at least I'll look good and not get a sunburn while I'm waiting. Sunscreen goes in the bag first. I like to bring along a waterproof, sweat-proof formula that contains micronized zinc oxide for maximum protection. This sunscreen will work perfectly for the face and the body so I know I'll be safe from sun damage. Next I throw in my travel size facial moisturizer and a small mineral water spray for maximum moisture. I like my complexion to look even but not made up so I toss in a tinted moisturizer with SPF. This doubles up on the protection, at the same time giving my skin a little extra coverage for an even look. It's light on the skin, so in heat and humidity it always feels like I'm bare-faced. Bronzer goes in next, and I prefer the cream formulas that melt into the skin so I look like I have a real tan. Most bronzers contain so much metallic shimmer they look unnatural at the beach. A highlighter comes along for my famous three key highlighter tricks: Apply it under the brows, on the inside corners of the eyes and on top of the cheekbones to make the skin radiant. A bright blush will keep my cheeks rosy and waterproof eyeliner and mascara are a must for defined eyes that last. A tinted lip balm is a must for lips that stay hydrated with a kick of color, and finally blotting papers and a powder compact for controlling shine. This is all you will need to look naturally beautiful on your trip, so make your check list and start packing. Have fun!!!!!

Carmindy's Q & A
Have a question you want Carmindy to answer? Email her at newsletter@carmindy.com

Lori Bower writes:
Are cream blush and lip balms considered a solid or gel by TSA?

Carmindy:
Actually they are a solid and technically do not have to go into your Ziploc. Neither do powders, pencils or lipsticks.

Michelle Spindler writes:
How do I avoid sunscreen getting into my eyes?

Carmindy:
Keep sunscreen away from the eye area and keep your shades and a hat on. For more protection purchase a sunscreen made for the eyes like Kiehl’s Ultra Moisturizing Eye Stick SPF 30.

Polly Schrobilgen writes:
Is it wrong to wear lipstick to the beach?

Carmindy:
No way! I love rocking a great lip color on the beach. Just make sure the rest of your face is bare for a chic summer look. Choose shades in bold floral colors to make your statement.
