Fruity Goodness

Hi ladies, sorry I have been MIA lately with the newsletter but I just finished my book tour for Get Positively Beautiful. For those of you I met on the road, it was a blast meeting you all and I am so happy you loved the new book so much.

During my travels I kept my skin in tiptop shape using some of my favorite products and I noticed that they all seemed to have one thing in common - they all contained fruit. If you love to eat fruit and know how good it is for you then I'm sure you will be keen on all the fruity goodness that goes into beauty products these days. Most fruit contains the best beauty saviors there are: antioxidants.

I decided to ask Dr. Asa Andrew, my new BFF whom I met on a morning show last week, about the real effects of fruit extracts on the skin. Here is what he had to say: all those fruit extracts are great for the skin. Remember, 70% of what you put on the skin goes directly into the bloodstream. Topical antioxidants like vitamin C or E work because they protect the skin from free radicals on the outside AND the inside. In addition, they go into the blood stream, which protects our cells as they regenerate every day.

All our cells regenerate every single day. Each day old cells die and new cells form. What we give our body each day, including high antioxidants, can help ensure proper cell regeneration. By constantly using antioxidant creams, we will ensure better turnover of the bad cells, and better regeneration of the good, new healthy cells. So with an endorsement like that from the great doc you should really read your ingredients and go for skincare and makeup that is chock full of the fruit. When creating Natural Beauty with Sally Hansen, we made sure everything from mango to grapefruit extract went into our makeup and it really looks and feels incredible when you wear it. So whether you eat an apple a day or a sweep on pomegranate infused blush, go for fresh and fruity.

Carmindy's Q & A

Theresa McDonald writes: If I eat really healthy does it matter if I use natural makeup or not?

Carmindy: I am all about balance, and eating healthy is the best thing you can do to insure your skin's health as well as that of your body. The benefits are priceless. Applying makeup that contains natural ingredients will help also. As you see in what Doc Andrew says, it will be absorbed, so you will benefit.

Cheri Schemer writes: My lips are always dry and I never know what to look for in a balm.

Carmindy: Oh you must try my Moisture Plump Lip Balm. It's filled with rich moisturizing avocado oil and yes, avocado is a fruit. It will lick your lips into shape and you won't suffer from flakiness anymore. They are tinted so there are many colors to choose from and a clear one for the really natural gal.

Yvonne Gandy writes: My eyes get dry and flaky and never look smooth when I apply makeup. What should I do?

Carmindy: Try Eminence Organics Naseberry Eye Exfoliant. It's filled with Naseberry that removes dead flaky skin, green apple that works as an anti-inflammatory, and raspberry that is a rich antioxidant. Check out their website at www.eminenceorganic.com
